In his vibrantly colored works painted with lush acrylic and fluorescent Day-Glo colors, drawn with soft pastel colored pencils, and embellished with glitter and gold, Japanese artist Hasegawa Sadao envisioned an alternate queer universe populated with chiseled, well-hung studs that existed outside the norms and restraints of heteronormative place and time.
By using vibrant hues of violet, azure, pink, and lime to craft his queer utopia, Hasegawa imagined masculine detachment, uninterested or even unable to express human emotions, meaty embodiments of sex.
